Industry Codes

So how do I find these industry and country codes that I am supposed to add? -- 80.195.187.49 07:10, 28 Mar 2005 (BST)

there are quite a few places:
www.naics.com/search.htm is probably the best - I'll add a page of links to useful sites for codes.--WikiSysop 00:50, 29 Mar 2005 (BST)
And the Help page now lists them too. But I couldn't find a code describing the activities of Green Hat Consulting (IT Consulting and software development) Any ideas? -- Harry Wood 13:14, 26 Nov 2005 (GMT)

geographic searching

In a global directory, the ability to narrow a search geographically would be a really helpful feature, and I rather expected it, but I don't see a way to do that. Is there one?

Try typing in a city or country in the Search Box and clicking on Search (not GO)--WikiSysop 16:07, 23 Nov 2005 (GMT)

"How to add a company" instructions

It says there's a "create a new page" page link, but I don't see it. I created a page by sticking the title in the URL, but I had to swap underscores for spaces (not a very easy user-friendly approach) Where is this link? It's not very clear -- Harry Wood 13:11, 26 Nov 2005 (GMT)

How to add a company
  1. ) Start by doing a search. You might find that it has already been added to the directory.
  2. ) If it doesn't already exist, click on the "Add it to the database" link.
  3. ) You can insert a template to help you get started by clicking on the little Yellowikis target button http://www.yellowikis.org/wiki/skins/common/images/yw_T_button.png on the edit bar.
  4. ) Don't forget to add a country code and at least one industry code.
  5. ) Save it.
Ah OK. It was step 2 that was not clear. I needed a more long-winded explanation e.g. "If it doesn't already exist, type the name of your company in the search box and click 'GO', then click on the "Add it to the database" link." Because I was looking for the "Add it to the database" link on the main page. ...maybe I'm just stupid :-) -- Harry Wood 11:17, 13 Jan 2006 (GMT)
Harry, you are right, it's not user friendly - The next upgrade will see it become much easier. We hope to make the whole geo code thing easier too. Let us know if you have any more thoughts.--WikiSysop 11:29, 13 Jan 2006 (GMT)
Well it's not so un-user-friendly. Just the instructions could maybe be improved.
Another idea is to change the 'Go' button to be called 'Add'. See the customisations they've made on http://wikidweb.com . Provided it looks like a website name, the Go button does something different. Not sure how easy those code changes were. -- Harry Wood 11:40, 13 Jan 2006 (GMT)

nothing here works!

I'm reading all the stuff here about searching, adding companies, etc., but nothing seems to work.

Explanation?? Instructions?? Directions?? HOw-to??

Type a word or phrase into the search box on the left hand navigation. For example "Ikea" Click on the "Go" button if you want to see contact details for Ikea and click on the "Search" button if you want to search the database for all pages which feature the word "Ikea".
To add a company start by doing a search for it. If it doesn't already exist you can add it to the database by typing the name of the company into the search box and clicking on the "Go" button. You will see some red words that say "add it to the database", click on these words and you can start writing your company information. If you need some suggestions on how to format your page click on little button with the Yellowikis target on it.
We are more than happy to help you, but you might want to check that you are not suffering from a "user-device interface error", which does happen quite often on Yellowikis. We are working on ways to prevent this happening in the future. Good luck! --PaulY 21:18, 15 Dec 2005 (GMT)
