Andersen Corporation is a privately owned company founded in 1903 by Hans Andersen. The international corporation, which employs over 9,000 people, has its headquarters in Bayport, Minnesota. The company annually manufactures over six million wood doors and windows. In addition, the company is known for its history as a market leader in sales and innovation.
In 1905, Andersen introduced the “Ten Minute Window” by standardizing window frame piece sizes and segregating them into two separate categories, vertical and horizontal. This was also known as the two bundle method.
In 1966, Andersen introduced the Perma-Shield® Cladding System. The cladding system involves extruding vinyl over a wood core. The process was developed with the help of Luigi Zanini, an Italian inventor.
In 1991, Andersen introduced a new material composed of vinyl and wood fiber, known as Fibrex®. The wood fiber is reclaimed sawdust from the milling and cutting processes. Fibrex® is extruded and used in window and door parts.
